Kayaking in Nepal How to Kayak : How to do a Forward Stroke while Kayaking
Jan 182010

I will be visiting Lake Powell (in Utah) over the summer. I want to go kayaking on the lake, but I don’t know what to do with my (DSLR $500) camera. I’ll be between hotels, so I can’t leave it in my room. Any suggestions? I don’t want to leave it in my rental car (theft, heat).
I don’t think some people read the details – I will be ‘between hotels’, traveling from Kanab to Kayenta, so I can’t keep it at my hotel.

the concierge at the hotel you will check into that night should be able to hold your bags for you… camera included.

You can call the Page chamber of commerce at 928-645-2741 for ideas.

The Holiday Inn Express at 928-645-9000

and the Marriot at 928-645-5000 have locker safes you can rent.

Marriot has a good lunch too…

Why don’t you take your camera with you? The slot canyons and the water are very photogenic. Pros use dry bags on the Colorado River rapids all of the time. They work well.

    Addendum:

I understood your question. You can still keep your equipment at the hotels listed above without being a guest. They are located in Page. Also, you are welcome to drop off your stuff at my place while you are Kayaking if you want.

Pelican cases will do the trick

Either get the hotel to look after your bags most hotels have areas where they can be safely locked with a key etc.
If this is not appropriate camping shops do plastic sealable bags that are completely waterproof and are designed for kayaking type trips where you need to seal away objects which cant be contacted with water. This also means while your on the lake if you stop you can take photographs
