For a few weekends each year, expert kayakers test their skills against the powers of nature in Tallulah Gorge, where the river drops more than 500 feet in less than a mile. The gradient is actually around 220 fpm. We aren’t talkin’ Bear Creek here. The upper falls section above hurricane falls may be that gradient. Maybe more, but no one runs that section because it’s all class VI waterfalls.
