Don has a productive day of fishing. A 23″ speckled sea trout, and a 5′ lemon shark! IN A KAYAK!!!! Interested in kayak fishing? go to: groups.yahoo.com In the Naples, FL area? go to: groups.yahoo.com Concerning “extreme kayak fishing”: Beginning kayak fishers may read the reports that I write, watch the You Tube videos, etc., and get the impression that this is an established sport, and that anyone with a kayak and a fishing rod can go out and do it. I do not mean to give that impression. Fishing for shark, tarpon, amberjack, cobia, etc. from kayaks is NOT for the uninitiated. There are real risks, and real dangers involved. Sure, it’s exciting, but it is “extreme kayak fishing”. When you go after these species and other large species, you are dealing with an apex predator that is capable of putting a real hurt on you when things go wrong. You need to know the risks, and be prepared… and even then, things can still go wrong. If you are thinking about doing extreme kayak fishing, then you need to understand that you are taking the risks upon yourself. I understand that, and accept that. I am not new to kayaking. I have been kayaking for about 15 years, and have experienced extreme conditions of wind, waves, weather, and currents. I am fairly new to kayak fishing – only the last few years – but I bring my years of kayaking experience to the sport of kayak fishing. Any kayak fisher, fishing in any water, can encounter dangers. There is a lot to take into account when you …

I’m suprised the shark didn’t try to kocked your kayak over!o_o
Thanks Guitar Man! (Suddenly Ray Steven’s “Guitarzan” is running through my head!)
I kept a blacktip while camping on an extended trip, and it fed a whole group – no waste.
I built the kayak myself – it’s 17 1/2′ long by 22″ wide – a great touring kayak, with a lot of room for camping gear. Stitch & glue construction.
Don
awesome video! thanks for releasing the shark! ive seen way too many idiots keep sharks when they surely went to waste. Nicely done- what kinda kayak was that?
Ya, now that it’s summer time and the beach is pretty much totaly flat i’ve been taking the yaks offshore.
I’ve caught a couple five to six foot lemons and a forty three pound kingfish
Hello again, Angus!
I used 40 lb. single-strand steel leader, and a circle hook. The circle hook went right in the corner of its mouth, away from the teeth. That’s how they usually work. They are so effective, that FWS is mandating that they should be used in Florida for offshore fishing, for safer releasing of undersized fish (or catch & release).
how did he not break the leader?
Yeah, right… and if you say you’re destined for love at the age of 85, I’d say you’re deluded.
This is real… about as real as it gets. Some people sit around and watch TV, others actually go out and DO stuff. Try it sometime… see what it’s like to LIVE – not just dream.
Don
its fake -.-
lol no my tung is blu from disease
I guess it’s not your kind of sport then, Bab… that rod and reel costs a bit too much to let go – LOL!!! Screaming? That’s cool… it really is an adrenaline rush, when something that big is towing you around,,, sort of like having a tiger by the tail.
Don
Thanks Blu Tung… it really was! So… I have to ask… have you been drinking too many blue raspberry Icees at 7-11? Inquiring minds want to know.
i wouldve screamed and let go of the fishing rod lol. Im scared to death of sharks. x]
Really Cool man! That must have been a fun experience!
Yep – I guess it was a bit crazy… I released the shark alive, although I am not strictly a catch-and-release fisher. While kayak camping in the 10,000 islands of south Florida, I caught a 4′ 9″ blacktip shark (featured in my 3-part video “A Lulu of a Blacktip”), which provided dinner for our group for 2 nights.
Don
That’s crazy! What did you do with the shark?
i would sht my pants
Thanks, Elegost! LOTR fan, eh? Cool.
Don
dude i cant believe you caught that from a kayak… nice vid =)
Thanks LC1Banana, and sk8surf00 – I’m glad you both enjoyed the video! It was a lot of fun making it, but it’s even better, knowing that others have enjoyed it too.
Don
